Enchanted Childhood

“…Somewhere on the edge of a swampy ditch, surrounded by meadows full of wildflowers and four leaf clovers. A hidden borderland between worlds, that place between sleep and awake. That’s where she could always be found with her beloved furry nightcreatures…”

This is the place I grew up, among the field mouses, frogs and cow parsley , ditches full of underwater creatures in murky water that I kept in glass jam jars. I hid behind whimsical pollard willows with old faces, in cornfields while sculpting trolls from the stinking wet clay soil and I was blissfully happy.

Illustrating fairy tales, whether life size in oilpaint or as small in pencil like this little tale…. it’s what I’ve always done and will always do, I’m forever among the Nature Spirits and Forest Beings
